These images involve glaciers or permafrost or are the result of previous glacial or frost activity. Technically, a glacier is a perennial mass of ice (which may contain or convey rocks). A rock glacier is when the mass is mostly rock and the ice is only interstitial. Both move downhill due to gravity and have a characteristic lobate form.
